You've seen the scores, so now the question: Who's No. 1?
Jackson is the boys basketball tournament champion at the Show Me Center. Hayti is the champ at Bloomfield. The Park Hills tournament will crown a winner Monday.
But in the next 24 hours, somebody has to rise to the top of the SemoSportsWeb Top 25 boys basketball poll. And we're looking for feedback.
Each week we get input from coaches, fans and the media to come up with our Top 25, and this one might be the toughest one of the season so far.
Bell City was No. 1 a week ago, but that was before the Cubs went 1-2 at the Show Me Center. Charleston was No. 2, then lost in a semifinal. Scott County Central was No. 3 and also lost short of the championship round. No. 4 Sikeston stumbled before the fourth day at Poplar Bluff and finished 3-1 there.
So whose run through the gauntlet over the past five days was more impressive? Was it Jackson's string of wins against Meadow Heights, Scott City, Cape Girardeau Central and Notre Dame? Or Hayti's wins against East Carter County, Portageville, Puxico and Doniphan? Or maybe a team that went 3-1 actually rose above the rest?
Who do you like?

I would have to agree with alot that your posted. I being a ND Alumi would have to say right onw since Sikeston is 8-2 or 9-2 not sure that they have to be the favorite. They have beat us twice already and have proved to be one of if not the best team in the area at this time. If we had Willen I think things could have been different. Jackson winning the Christmas tourney is great but there record is not strong enough to put them in the #1 spot. This week I would put:
1 Sikeston
2 Jackson
3 Notre Dame
4 Charleston
5 SCC
6 Hayti
7 Scott City
8 Bell City
9 South Iron
10.......
that is this guys input.
Jackson's record is 10-4 not 9-4 as you have listed.
Thanks
Jamie, Sikeston went 2-1 in the Bluff Showdown with a loss to Harrison, an 83-58 win over Maplewood and a 70-56 win over Poplar Bluff. They went into the tournament 7-1 and are now 9-2. I think it's a tossup for the #1 team in the area right now between Sikeston and Jackson. It should be pretty fun to watch them play each other in Jackson on the 22nd. The game that could shake the rankings up a bit is the Sikeston-Charleston matchup this coming Friday. The Dog Dome should be packed.
I don't think there is a clear no. 1. Sikeston, Charleston and SCC all have a good argument because of their record and the way they all played this week. But Jackson and ND are playing just as good as anybody, despite their record. I think whoever wins between Sikeston and Charleston next Friday will be the clear cut no. 1 team in the area. But with as many top teams playing each other the next couple of weeks the no. 1 team could change each week.
Good point that Sikeston went 2-1 at Poplar Bluff, not 3-1. That's the kind of mistake I make when I write a blog at 1 a.m.
Not one person has commented about the fact that Jackson has already beat Sikeston AT SIKESTON??
Yeah, Jackson did beat Sikeston in Sikeston. But, they(Jackson) also lost to Holt and Salem.
Scott City beats Bell city and are still ranked lower than them? Unbelievable. Bleed blue had a very good top 9 started maybe you could fill in the rest from there.
I noticed you have the new rankings up for this week and see that you still have Jackson's record as 9-4. Jackson has 10 wins so far this season. They are: 2 at the Farmington tourney, 2 at the SEMO conference tourney, 4 at the Christmas tourney and 2 regular schedule games (Kennett and Dexter).
You have to put Jackson as #1. They beat Sikeston at home. However, Sikeston missed over 15 free throws and was leading by 12 at half. During the game vs PB on Saturday at the PB tourney, the Dogs were 22-24 from the charity stripe. Not sure which team will show up vs ND, but we sure need the latter!
i think there is no number 1 team, until the end of the season.
Jackson beat Sikeston
Charleston beat Jackson
ND beat Charleston
Jackson beat ND.
Sikeston and Charleston beat ND. (Doesn't count without Willen.)
At this point Jackson is #1
