Changes at the top among SEMO football stat leaders

M.C. Williams has taken over as the region's leader among high school football running backs, but Joey Lewandowski is pulling away in the race to be MVP among Southeast Missouri football players.

Williams' big game Friday in East Prairie's win over Portageville pulled him ahead in the rushing category among area teams. He has 1,449 yards through seven games, ahead of Lewandowski of Fredericktown (1,403) and Brandon Bourbon of Potosi (1,360 yards). Williams' 207-yard game Friday was tops among running backs in the area.

But after a week of voting for Southeast Missouri's football MVP, Lewandowki leads with 29 percent compared to Williams' 17 percent. Eli Jackson of Sikeston sits in third. A list of 12 players was picked for the final vote, which will stay open until the end of the season.

Among quarterbacks in the region, Kory Faulkner of Ste. Genevieve leads all passers with 2,042 yards after a 400-yard game Saturday at Westminster. Blake Parr of Kennett is second with 1,890 yards.

Dustin Noll of Ste. Genevieve leads the receivers category with 801 yards, ahead of Jarvis Finley of Kennett.

Photos were posted earlier in the week from four games across the 33-county area: Al Jones' images from Sikeston's win over Kennett are here; Amy Amsden's gallery from St. Vincent's win at Grandview are here; Diane Wilson's photos from New Madrid County Central's win at Park Hills Central are here; and Andrew Amsden's gallery from the matchup between Potosi and Festus is here.

Sikeston beat Kennett 45-7. Just thought you'd like to correct it.

Your rankings of area schools is aweful. How do you rank NMCC two spots behind Hayti? Hayti lost to Kennett, Kennett lost to Sikeston 45-7, and Sikeston lost to NMCC 40-29. Kennett is not very good and has played a easy schedule. I dont care what QB you have, but it is easy to throw the ball all over the field against Malden and Portageville. When they played a better team in Sikeston, they barely got 1 touchdown.

NMCC was ranked No. 3 in our preseason poll, then lost at home to Poplar Bluff, squeeked past Cape Central, then lost at home to Potosi. After that came two wins over Charleston and Caruthersville, which are teams with a combined 2-12 record. The win over Sikeston has been NMCC's biggest so far, but Sikeston is 4-3 and has had ups and downs this season.

NMCC has had a good season and could be tough in the playoffs, but the No. 8 ranking -- based on what's happened in the first seven weeks -- is pretty accurate.

Jamie, I think your rankings are usually pretty dead-on accurate. Chill out NMCC fan, if your Eagles win the district they will shoot up the rankings. The bottom line is they haven't been too impressive this year. They still have a chance to get it on track in district play, which they will, because that district is not very difficult.

Potosi beat unbeaten Fredericktown. They are a good team. Bluff is in a bigger class then NMCC and didnt allow an offensive TD against JACKSON.
NMCC's two loses were probably somewhat expected.

What do you think Hayti's record would be if they played that schedule? Charleston and C-ville are not good at all. Very bad comparison on your part.

Hayti loses vs. Dexter
Loses vs. Sikeston
Loses vs. Potosi
Loses vs. Bluff
Probably lose vs. Cape IMO
