The unbeaten list shrinks to two

With Potosi's loss Monday at New Madrid County Central, the No. 1 team in the SEMO 33 poll is done for the season.

Who's left? No. 2 Valle is 12-0 and owes its closest game to Maplewood-Richmond Heights in a 20-12 decision Oct. 2. The Warriors have been held to less than 34 points just once, with a high mark of 69 points against Hayti last week.

Among the wins: 47-12 over Ste. Genevieve, 42-26 over Herculaneum, and 59-7 over St. Vincent.

Likewise, No. 3 Sikeston is unbeaten and has put up big numbers and big wins, and the Bulldogs have scored at least 26 points in every game this season, including 54 against Charleston and 50 against Dexter.

The wildcard: NMCC, the team that beat No. 1 Potosi and owes regular-season losses to Potosi (39-6), Sikeston (34-12) and Park Hills Central (38-28).

The next SEMO 33 poll comes out Monday -- who's No. 1?

sikeston is good, this year but nmcc is good almost every year, why dont we start jumping on the nmcc bandwagon, who is semo has a better overall football program?

He didn't ask who has the best program he asked who is the best team THIS YEAR! I am not partial to either team, but I would have to go with Sikeston. Undefeated still AND beat NMCC. Regardless of injuries you have to play with what you have on the field and overcome. Sikeston was without Eli Jackson for 2 1/2 games and still found a way to win.

i agree sikeston is better this year but everybodies talking about sikeston this year nmcc never gets any props and they are always in the mix this time of year, all im saying is that year in and year out nmcc football is always at this level. sikeston is not . truth or not

JENNIFER, if you have a problem about NMCC being disrespected although they always go deep, we're not disagreeing but that is a topic for the forum. Jamie asked who is Number 1 FOR THIS SEASON. That would be Sikeston and Southeast MVP Juqualin Wiggins.

I agree, they always are, but I know alot of people say, well thats fine your in the playoffs but how many times have you won state? I know it sucks but thats the harsh reality of it all. Just like Sikeston. They have made the playoffs numerous times but never been able to seal the deal. There has only been 1 time that NMCC has made it to the championship game since 1981. I know they are a great team with great athletes, but like I said it's hard to make a push as being a "dynasty" if they have never brought home the hardware. Same with Sikeston. I know around here that is all people are talking about though, is both Sikeston and NMCC. If you will visit a few other sports sites, it seems like everyone is talking about how NMCC dismantled Potosi. That was a huge win! I just like to see any SEMO team doing well! I hope both teams can bring it all home this year to SEMO.

i agree with you both teams are great but us small schools just dont get the coverage you guys get, not bashing yall at all, you rocked us this year, and yal are the best team in semo this year, just tryin to represent my eagles.

Small schools never get the coverage as the bigger schools because there isn't media located in those "small markets." That's just the way it is and that's the way it is across the state. NMCC has a good Class 3 program and sometimes they are good enough to play with the larger schools. But for the discussion at hand, Sikeston is the No. 1 team in SEMO.

New semo top 3...Valle, Sikeston and NMCC. But... I think if Sikeston and NMCC had a shot at Valle they are both capable of defeating the Warriors.

Anonymous said...

I can't imagine Valle being better than Sikeston. We'll never know though.

Anonymous said...

Theres no way you can have ANYONE over Sikeston. No way.

sikeston should be number one, nmcc two then valle, no brainer

I think Sikeston should be #1 and not because I went there. They have won dispite injuries and beat a good Poplar Bluff team twice.

To Jennifer:

Sikeston has had a good program year in and year out. Yes they had a few down years starting with the late 90's and early 2000's because a lot of the youth lost their way and found other activities to get into. Now the tradition is coming back and Sikeston will be on the Map again.
