Who's No. 1 in Southeast Missouri now?

It stands to reason that any tournament featuring six of the top 10 teams in Southeast Missouri could shake up the boys basketball rankings. After Thursday, we have a somewhat better idea of how it might turn out.

Poplar Bluff, No. 1 the past two weeks, is almost certain to drop after a loss Thursday to No. 4 New Madrid County Central in the semifinals of the SEMO Conference tournament. In the other game, No. 3 Sikeston defeated No. 5 Notre Dame by double digits.

So now the question: Will Southeast Missouri's new No. 1 team come from Friday's championship game (8:30 p.m. at Sikeston High School, for those who want to see it unfold live)?

Or does Scott County Central, the preseason No. 1 and currently No. 2, climb back to the top?

Look for the new Top 25 on Monday. But if it's your call, who do you pick?

The winner of Sikeston/NMCC should be number 1, i think.

If #1 loses and #2 wins, #1 drops and #2 moves up.

If Sikeston wins tonight, I am not sure that the question is truly answered. Sikeston & Scott County are the best 2 teams in the area. The debate as to which one is #1 or #2 can only be based on opinion since the two teams will not meet this year. As a Sikeston fan, I sure would like to see that match up. Does anyone know why Sikeston doesn't play SCC?

If sikeston beast ND and NMCC in the same week, I give it to them.

they used to get into big fights after tha games. Sikeston threw bricks threw their bus window once, and it was over after that

"they used to get into big fights after tha games. Sikeston threw bricks threw their bus window once, and it was over after that"

That is completely FALSE! What a illiterate idiot!

I feel IF Sikeston wins a tournament where, according to your poll, the #1, #7, and #10 teams were defeated and then they defeat the #5 and POSSIBLY defeat the the #4 team, Sikeston should DEFINITELY be #1! Those are HALF of your TOP 10 teams!

its true moron, my uncle was on the SCC team.

The "illiterate idiot" is correct, from everything I've heard. And I have talked to a player or two from the '71 SCC team (the last year Sikeston and SCC played).

The Sikeston cheerleaders in 1971 tried to turn on the SCC cheerleaders in the bathroom. It may take an act of congress to get these 2 teams to play again.

I think it has to be SCC, with Sikeston moving up to #2. Sikeston has not beat #2 or #1, so I don't see any reason they should move up. PB probably stays in the top 5, because they lost to another top 5 team. ND will probably drop a few spots. Although they lost two games to top 5 teams, a loss is a loss.

Sikeston should get the nod for this week. They were able to win three games in one week against some formidable opponents (two top five teams and a team that beat Charleston)and SCC has not really played a tough game yet. Down the road, maybe they should have #1, but for now, my vote is for Sikeston.

Sikeston is as fast and as good on defense as SCC, but Sikeston is also bigger. These two teams each play Charleston, NMCC and Poplar Bluff but can't or won't play each other. It's a shame when the reason they don't play each other is because the cheerleaders had a throw down in the bathroom. I think Sikeston would get out coached, I'm sorry I KNOW Sikeston would get out coached, but I think in the end Sikestons size would be the difference in a great close game no one will ever see.

Hahahha

Sikesotn has beat 2 top 5 teams, in one week. SCC pplays nobodies.

SCC does play a lot of nobodies. However, part of that is the fact that bigger schools don't want to schedule them. That's what I've been told. SCC can't help their schedule. I guess the only thing we can compare is common opponents.

There really is no discussion about this. Sikeston would whoop SCC like every other team in SEMO. They are just too equipped for any team (atleast in the SEMO area) to take them on.

With all due respect "anonymous", that's what Sikeston fans have been saying for the past 2 or 3 years.

Sikeston also plays some "nobodies", they just happen to be in a bigger class.

yeah but when Sikeston plays the "nobodies" it's like scrimmage for them. The "nobodies" should help Sikeston get ready for the real competition down the line. Also, notice I did say should. Let's not forget the embarrassing game against Scott City last year. Either way Sikeston is definitely the team to beat this year. Those guys really play as a team, you can see the comradarie in how they play.

As opposed to bad teams giving SCC close games? I don't see what your point was there...

"The 'nobodies' should help Sikeston get ready for the real competition down the line."

I strongly disagree with that statement, in regards to any team. What good does not having to play your best game and not be challenged do to help a team prepare for the truly good teams in the state?

I think it's great to play some games where the underclassmen get more minutes and get to boost their confidence and try out some moves!

As for SCC and Sikeston, I wonder if people realize that the reason that they BOTH are so good is because they have played with and against each other (summer pick-up games, Show-Me games, open gyms) for years. Their team of 14-17 year olds beat some good 18-19 year old teams this summer at the Show-Me games.

Farmboy, you sure get mad when we put a spankin on your bluedogs....

Ha, yep you got me figured out.

I'm not mad. It's not like the loss was unexpected, so what should I have to be mad about? I am upset because ND had some bad shots and unforced turnovers that didn't make the game any easier for them...but other than that, I thought they kept the score respectable. They may not win once against Sikeston this year, but I'd be willing to bet that if they meet in districts, it's going to be a good game.

That poll is a joke! But then again I am not suprised. Start the year with SCC number one, they falter and we need another team to put ahead of Sikeston, I know-Poplar Bluff! Sikeston beats Cape by 45, and then blows out ND and NMCC (who beat the "clear cut" number one-Bluff)on back to back nights, while SCC is whipping Oran, Kelly, Eminence, Mayberry, Morehouse, Matthews, and who knows who else and they are the best team. What happens if SCC wins the Christmas tournamentand Sikeston wins the Bluff showdown ( which I doubt they will do)SCC still the best team? Are the only coaches involved in the poll the teams that SCC beats?

Boohoo

WOW

There is a real reason people who can read don't like Sikeston people. All i see is them crying about everything...We beat the crap out of you guys last year... We beat the crap out of you the year before...and we will be back at it soon. We have this kid from Charleston who when we put him and our starting point gaurd/ who is injured now, on the court together it will be a different game. Greer will have a better game next time and you will not have any answers for him!!!!

SEE YOU FRIDAY NIGHT LADIES

Hope that works out for you!!!

Anonymous said...

Wow!! You'd think that those Sikeston folks were just told that Santa is skipping them this year.

I agree man that poll is difinitely retarded whatever happened to strength of schedule being taken into the equation, also I just recently found this site and maybe it's me cuz I'm originally from sikeston but I notice that no matter what sikeston does there are people on here to downplay and scrutinize their wins. It doesn't suprise me though because it was going on while I went to SHS. But regardless Sikeston should be proud of being conference champs. Sure they still have the rest of the season and march to go but right now they have alot to be proud and excited about.
